The Ladies of Juliana

Six women, exiled from their homes. Sent to colonise a new land. A boat. Powerful men, oppressed women. You can guess what happens next. A journey that takes longer than expected, and weathers more than storms. Navigating life on the ship is a crueller fate than the destination, and the convicts have a choice to make. Using the devices of theatre, music and narrative we bring women to life, three-dimensionally and unapologetically. What happens when women close their legs and open their mouths?

The Ladies of Juliana is set below deck of an 18th century convict ship.  The Golden Hinde provides the perfect setting for an impressive theatre experience, allowing audiences to journey alongside the characters.  The confined, dimly-lit space would highlight the harsh, claustrophobic conditions these women faced, transporting audiences directly into the world of the play, as though they too, are confined aboard The Lady Juliana.
