Discover the exciting story of the 1588 Armada and its place in history. The Armada programme is designed to breathe life into a pivotal moment in English history through interactive maps, replica handling sessions and a guided exploration of a 16th century galleon.
Students will utilise the unique environment of our galleon and its replica collection to help them wrestle with the key historical question: ‘Why did the Armada fail?’
Students will also be provided with our pre- and post-visit resources, designed to encourage them to get the most out of their visit.
Learning Objectives
- To recognise the factors that impacted the failure of the 1588 Armada and be able to argue their importance.
- To utilise the environment of the ship and its replica collection to gain a clear understanding of the difficulties and dangers faced by 16 th century mariners and how they relate to the 1588 Armada.
- To develop historical skills of enquiry, comparison and debate.
